Live life...1 Pound at a Time!

Hi my name is Eric. This was me June 1st 2012. I was happy with me but unhappy with how I looked.

I have been for a long time (years!). I was talking with my girlfriend on night. She is in phenomenal shape by the way. She wanted me to be healthier. She always tells me she wants to keep me around for as long as possible. So we started to play with this calorie calculator. My frame is somewhat large for my size. So by my own calculations and previous experience from when I was younger I thought I should carry a little more weight than what they were suggesting. So after talking she said "I think you should lose 40 pounds". I said "okay I'll do it". I don't think either of us thought I would really do it. I still haven't done but I am close.

I want to say thank you for all your love, care and support to this very second. We all have to find what motivates you personally. You have to find what gives you strength to push through the tough times. You also have to not beat yourself up. I have a wonderful coach in my girlfriend. She always said you are too hard on yourself. You need to give yourself credit for what you are doing or have already done. I couldn't have done it without you baby, I give you the biggest thank you anyone can give another person in this world! My children thank you too. They love their even happier healthy daddy!

This is me October 2012. I have lost 35 pounds. I swear it, that is the same person 35 pounds lighter. I am still losing weight. I set a goal to lose 40 pounds. I have 5 pounds more to go. I keep saying I can only lose 1 pound at a time! Want to know how I have done it? Read on...

So I told you I have this really cool girlfriend. She is very supportive. She bought me first pair of running pants I have ever owned and Nike workout shirt. She told me it is really easy. She said "if you take in more calories than you burn you will gain weight. If you burn more calories than you take in you will lose weight." That is the best weight loss advice I have ever gotten. Simple math equals weight loss! I started going to the gym or going for walks outside. It wasn't easy. I did and hour and a half on the treadmill and it was tough for me. I think I was only burning around 700 calories. I set small goals. I wanted to get to 800 calories and 8% incline. No matter what I refused to do less than a hour and a half.  At first I was kind of tracking my distance, incline, speed and how many calories I was burning. I started eating better but wasn't nearly perfect. One of my favorite things to eat is steak and burgers. I cut them out. I started eating a lot of ground turkey. Good thing there was I already liked ground turkey before I started this lifestyle change. You know one of the cool  things is I wasn't following a diet, taking pills, doing high protein. It is simple... the only things I changed were I started exercising, making sure I wasn't overeating and just eating better. It was a clear choice to change that was the easy part. Just like anything it comes with hard work. They say nothing is for free. There is not some lose weight fast scheme and keep it off. It is a choice. Plain and simple A CHOICE! I am not some miracle worker. I don't have a magic formula. I am not going to sell pills, diets or DVD's. I don't have them. I have will, desire and determination. I have never quit or given up. I still do a hour and a half but now I burn 1,500 to 1,700 calories at a 15% incline.
